Frozen Friends
Focus: Problem Solving
Expected set up time: Freeze the night before, then day of set up time is about 5 minutes
You’ll Need…
- Salt
- Water
- Cup
- Toy
- Butter knife (anything to chisel with!)
How to
This activity was a hit! Just freeze a toy in a cup of water overnight and then let the kids chisel it out of the ice with an old butter knife, or experimenting with salt and water to melt it!

Keeps them plenty busy helping their friend escape!!
Just keep sawing…
Or melting!
And if all else fails just smash it!!

Think about this
Your child’s problem solving skills are kicked in action as they try and figure out which method is going to be most effective in getting the object out of the ice.
It was helpful to set up the situation to make this activity into an interactive story! We had an evil witch come the night before and fast a freezing spell on our animals, and they needed our help to rescue them! It was a lot of fun! Remember to take that moment!
