Learning outcome: Planning, drawing skills, balancing and construction

You’ll need

• Paper
• Marker, pens, rulers
• Recycled boxes, containers, cartons, tubes

How to

Go around the house and collect any recycled objects you could use to build, stack, and create. Provide them with their architect tools (markers, paper, ruler, etc.) Draw up a plan of what they would like to build, then construct!

Think about this

 Planning & construction. Encouraging your child to engage in the process of drawing plans and then going to construct what they have drawn teaches them about the process and skill of thinking through a project and then executing it.

Balancing skills are developed as your child has to negotiate how to balance the various boxes (and their sizes) on top of each other.

Even if your child’s picture isn’t discernable, encourage them to follow the plan. Its the process more then product that is important. Remember to take that moment!
