Its SING WEEK so I get to share one of my favourite singing games with you! All you need to do is pick a simple song (like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star) and sing it different genres. Great way to teach and expose the kids to different styles of music. We dress up too to inspire different ideas and make it more dramatic! its WAY too much fun!
Some More Singing Games from Polkadot Carly, Polkadot Dez & Polkadot Sarah
One of our favourite singing games takes place when we are driving in the car. I start singing a song and slip in silly lyrics, such as “Twinkle Twinkle, like monkey.” Ashton loves listening and waiting to spot the wrong lyrics. He shouts out “No Mum, Not MONKEY!” and we sing the right words. Ashton then picks the next song and we sing at the top of our lungs till he hears the next wrong word and we start again! Its a great singing game that encourages good listening skills at the same time!
My activity idea is inspired by our little girl Brooklyn, it’s as simple as giving your child the time and your attention to sing however they like and letting their imagination go wild… Most Monday nights in our house we have what is called ‘Family Night’ and lately it has become a bit of a ritual where Brooklyn has a special spot where she performs and usually ends up with her making up a crazy song. It is actually HILARIOUS the lyrics she comes up with. You can totally see it’s all coming to her as she goes along. Most of the time it’s a bit of a nonsense story. One particular night she was on a role! She did about 3 songs before we realised ‘we should be filming this!’ because it is just too funny. This song is pretty much Brooklyn in a nut shell. You can see at the end of the video how pleased with herself she was, she even did a little bow at the end! Too cute!!! The lyrics were just so funny I had to write them down and share them with you. Enjoy! Click here to watch the full song.
“When you read a book, and she didn’t read a book and her Mummy and Daddy said no, and she was in trouble, she said help, help, help, help, in the girls and if she had blooood, she had a tail, in girl, and in, the girl.
The pirate, he, mouse, was having him, she was getting all the hard, have music, and they dance dance danced, and the wolf was gone and the wolf was gone. Everybody sing it! The wolf was gone, in the girl, in the box, in the girl, and she saw tee mouse, and then she saw teeth and mouth, and her, and us, and she saw a Mr Potatoe, and he didn’t like what she saw a birdie, in a house, and she runned away, and she just saw a wolf coming in the door, she closed the door, she started to walk and glow, and she decided to not talk, she did but she did but she did and ever she saw glasses and flowers!”
Lately our favorite singing game toPLAY is what we like to call POLKADOT-eoke. Where We play an instrumental version of a Polkadots song and each have a turn singing our hearts out karaoke style. My girls love it! Its been a favorite in our house for quite some time now an we have since progressed from Polkadot-eoke to ‘POP-eoke’ and ‘RAP-eoke’. Caydence is very much the Taylor Swift Pop Diva of Pop-eoke always picking the Disney Chanel pop songs to karaoke to. Her favourite at the moment ”Call me maybe” – By Carly Rae Jepsen. Camryn on the other hand is my little Rap-eoke Rap Star who likes to attempt the lyrical rhymes of Willow Smith and Nicky Minaj, her favourite at the moment “Fireball” by Willow Smith Featuring Nicky Minaj. Over the course of playing these games Its been so much fun for the girls and so enjoyable for me to see both my girls different personalities grow and shine through the different music and songs they each enjoy singing to. Give it a go! And dont forget to HAVE FUN!!!
