Cell phone. Desktop computer. Laptop. ipad. ipod. smartphone. I can almost guarantee most of you will have 4 out of these 6 things – the technology revolution is in full force! Just look around . . . your house! I most certainly didn’t have one of these things in my home when I was 3 years old. It is actually MIND BLOWING thinking about this technological world we live in. It is amazing to me how much you can now do online through any of these devices. I use the internet for EVERYTHING! To blog, to look at blogs, online banking, shopping online, facebooking, emailing, downloading music and movies, designing, the list is infinite! As a result, there is rarely a day that goes by that I don’t use my laptop.

My 3 year old daughter Brooklyn, (the star of all my blogs haha) is well aware of this. She will often sit next to me when I am on my laptop doing her own thing, usually drawing. On one particular day I had a lot of work to get done and I was feeling a little guilty for not playing with Brooklyn. Then I had an idea, we could MAKE her her OWN little laptop! We both love to make things so it was a great activity for us – plus it was a nice break.

All you need is . . .
Cardboard from a cardboard box, 1 cereal box (or a similar shaped box), 1 egg carton, ribbon/string, paper, tape, felts.

1. Cut a piece of cardboard from your cardboard box the size of your cereal box on the part that bends. Stick down the cereal box to the base.

2. Cut out a piece of paper to fit the size of your ‘screen’ and draw/write whatever you would like on it. Stick this onto your screen. (You could do a few of these). Cut out some ‘buttons’ and stick them to the base of your laptop. Write letters on each ‘button’. This is your keyboard.

3. Cut a slot on the side of your laptop then cut out some small card or paper 'discs' so you can watch pretend DVDs! Brooklyn loved pushing the 'movies' into the 'disc drive'.

4. Cut out one section from an egg carton. Poke a hole in and tie a pretty piece of ribbon or string then connect the other end to the side of your computer. This is your 'mouse'. And there you have it, your own laptop!
