THE MOST LOVED POLKADOTS SONG
Other than The Polkadots Jingle Bells Kiwi Style music clip, our most viewed music video on YouTube is “I Love Playing with the Beat”. Right from day one this song has been a hit with all children, so music so, that we can’t really do a concert now without including it. Its simple melody, repetitive lyrics and easy to copy actions, encourages children to engage with the song straight away.
When we were writing the songs that would comprise the Rhythmical Roots album, we wanted to create songs that would help children develop their awareness of beat and rhythm, as well as how they could use their bodies and various instruments to make music. “I love playing with the beat” would be the song to help children feel confident in using their bodies to make music.
I have seen 1 year olds very capably singing along and doing the actions to this song. Its a winner for children of all ages. If you want to extend your children’s ability to use their body to make music in different ways, or you want to use this song to introduce different parts of the body you can change up the lyrics. For example instead of singing, “I go clap clap clap, (clap clap calp)”, you could sing “I go tap on my knees, (tap tap tap)” and “I pat on my back, (pat, pat, pat)” etc.
